FDA-Approved Neuralink Blindsight: Breakthrough Device to Restore Vision
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has developed another groundbreaking device, to restore vision. He is well-known for introducing innovative and game-changing technologies. The tech billionaire founded Neuralink, a company developing brain-computer interface (BCI), in 2016. This agency focuses on enabling people to control devices with their thoughts.
Neuralink Introduces Breakthrough Blindsight Device
Neuralinks’ Blindsight implant is designed to enable people who have been blind since birth to regain sight. Elon Musk recently tweeted that as long as the visual cortex is intact, it could even allow those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.
However, it has been revealed that initially, the vision will be in low resolution, similar to early gaming graphics, like Atari graphics. Eventually, it may surpass natural vision. This could allow blind individuals to see in infrared, ultraviolet, or even radar wavelengths. This will allow the blinds to see in infrared, ultraviolet, or even radar wavelengths.
Experimental Implant Receives Approval From the FDA
The experimental implant device received the approval from US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This means it has been designated as a device that targets the treatment or diagnosis of life-threatening conditions. The US authorities have given this designation to several other medical devices to speed up their development while they are still being tested.
Neuralink Upcoming Device to Address Disabilities
In addition, the Neuralink team has announced they are working on developing another brain chip interface. This device will be implanted within the skill to help paralyzed patients move and communicate, along with restoring vision. This technology is currently being tested separately to allow disabled persons to use digital devices through their thinking without any external assistance.
Elon Musk’s Device Under Speculation
However, it has not yet been fully tested on humans and even US authorities have not yet commented on further development. While Neuralink got the “ breakthrough device” tag from the FDA, this does not guarantee it will fully cure blindness. In other words, it is easy to assume that any device could completely solve blindness. However, it is too early to make such claims. The outcome will depend on further testing.
