Australians’ Growing Dependency on Elon Musk’s Starlink for Communication Networks

Starlink from Space X has become a blessing for the national telecom network in Australia. Nearly 14% of the population of Australia lives outside the capital and regional cities.

It is used by more than 200,000 customers and is also implemented for emergency services, defence, and many other sectors. Despite too many applications of Starlink, there is also an increasing worry that this privately owned company is under the control of only one leader, the well-known personality, Elon Musk, who could abruptly deny access.

What is Starlink Satellite?

Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls, and more.

Leveraging advanced satellites and user hardware coupled with our deep experience with both spacecraft and on-orbit operations, Starlink delivers high-speed, low-latency internet to users all over the world. People around the world are utilizing this technology to gain access to various sectors, such as health, education, communication, and various disaster predictions.

Why Are Australians Increasingly Relying on Starlink?

The satellites of Starlink are in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), and this is even 10 times closer to the users, which offers faster services. This is due to the distance Starlink offers a smooth experience to the users, the existing National Broadband Network’s SkyMuster satellite internet services, making it the prior choice. Unlike the existing National Broadband Network’s SkyMuster satellite, which offers slow services with more distance. This system uses two satellites in GEO (geosynchronous high-earth orbit), around 35,786 km above the ground. This is why the users complained of low speed and shifted towards high-speed Starlink satellites. Due to its high speed and outstanding services, the state and federal departments have invested more than $50 million in Starlink hardware in the past three years.

Could Elon Musk Stop the Internet Services via Starlink in Australia?

Mr. Musk owns SpaceX, the parent company of Starlink. It is fully his will where to operate and quit. There have been cases where Elon Musk halted services. For example, when Russia attacked Ukraine and cut its internet connectivity, it was Starlink that supported the hard times in Ukraine by offering every operation from hospitals to military drones.

However, Mr. Musk abruptly limited the country’s use of Starlink because of offensive military operations. The outage badly affected units in Ukraine. In addition to this, SpaceX has also warned the Pentagon to stop funding the service in Ukraine. There are many other steps that Elon Musk took at his will and entered political issues. He attacked a Brazilian SC Judge, Justice Alexandre de Moraes, digitally; attacked Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro online; mocked UK PM Kier Starmer, and many more alone this year. So, this is the challenge that could arise in the upcoming time for Australians if they fully rely on a single service. In any crisis, there are chances that Elon Musk could stop his services in the area.

Announcements of Elon Musk for Starlink’s Next Generation Satellite

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is now working to bring in the next generation of Starlink internet satellites. These new updates are expected to be so much larger than before. Therefore, they will need to be straight-up launched using the company’s Starship rocket. The billionaire highlighted the size of the forthcoming fleet and said that the next-generation Starlink satellites will allow a 10x surge in bandwidth. It will offer more reduction in altitude and faster services with high speed.
